Nelson and Marlborough Institute of Technology

The Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) traces its roots back over 120 years providing education to the Nelson region. Deviate has been a part of that journey for just over a decade.

The NMIT website is a front end for a complex back office set of systems. The website, built on Silverstripe CMS, has deep connectivity with their student management system known as EBS. This is used to show information on their Programmes and Courses, and acts as the gateway to enrolment.

Part of the communications process utilises Campaign Monitor for mailing lists and sending HTML Emails and the website utilises the Campaign Monitor API triggering these emails under certain circumstances.

Single sign-on was developed by Deviate to assist with pre- and post-student accounts as well as their active students who have access to Microsoft products by default.

Deviate built the VueJS-based MyNMIT pulling data from various APIs and systems to gather various pieces of information into one user interface. This includes the likes of student results, payment transactions, timetables, notices, etc.

The website utilises Elasticsearch Large Language Model (LLM) vectorised search integration to assist with finding suitable matches for study options. This has taken the burden away from NMIT to maintain complex synonyms and write overly verbose course information.
